If you&#8217;re not a fan of the new layout and features, the good news is you can bring back the classic look and feel. Then, with iOS 18.2, came&nbsp;<strong>Categories<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 automatically sorting emails into&nbsp;<strong>Primary<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Transactions<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Updates<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Promotions<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 along with contact photos and business logos in your inbox. iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4 rolled these changes out universally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But not everyone is on board. Many users find the new setup overcomplicated, inconsistent, and disruptive to their existing email workflows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Turn Off Mail Categories<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Categories don\u2019t remove emails from your inbox but visually reorganize them, which can be confusing \u2014 especially when messages show up in multiple sections or badge counts feel off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To remove categories&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>On iPhone\/iPad:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the Mail app.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Tap the three-dot\u00a0<strong>More<\/strong>\u00a0button in the top-right.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select\u00a0<strong>List View<\/strong>\u00a0to go back to a standard chronological inbox.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Mac:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the\u00a0<strong>More<\/strong>\u00a0button (three dots) at the top of your inbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uncheck\u00a0<strong>Show Mail Categories<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Alternatively, go to&nbsp;<strong>Mail \u279d View \u279d Show Mail Categories<\/strong>&nbsp;in the menu bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This change is instant, and you can switch back anytime using the same steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Disable Contact Photos<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While meant to help identify senders, contact photos can clutter your inbox \u2014 especially when missing or misassigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To disable on iPhone\/iPad:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to\u00a0<strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down and tap\u00a0<strong>Apps<\/strong>, then select\u00a0<strong>Mail<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under &#8220;Message List,&#8221; toggle off\u00a0<strong>Show Contact Photos<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Mac:<\/strong>Go to&nbsp;<strong>Mail \u279d View<\/strong>, and uncheck&nbsp;<strong>Contact Photos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In iOS 18.5 (currently in beta), Apple will make it easier to disable this feature directly from the Mail app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Turn Off Priority Messages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Priority Messages aim to surface important emails first using AI \u2014 but the results can be unreliable, sometimes highlighting spam or phishing emails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To disable&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>On iPhone\/iPad:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tap the\u00a0<strong>More<\/strong>\u00a0button in your inbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Uncheck\u00a0<strong>Show Priority<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>On Mac:<\/strong>Go to&nbsp;<strong>Mail \u279d View<\/strong>, and uncheck&nbsp;<strong>Priority Messages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Note: This option only appears on devices with Apple Intelligence support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With recent updates to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS,&nbsp;Apple&nbsp;has made significant changes to its Mail app across all devices.
