Key Changes in AI Team Organization<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, Logan Kilpatrick, who leads product development for Google\u2019s AI Studio, announced that the AI Studio team and the team responsible for the API of the Gemini series of AI models will transition to Google DeepMind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google DeepMind was established in 2023 through the merger of DeepMind and Google Brain, the latter being a part of Google Research. Since its formation, DeepMind has spearheaded numerous AI initiatives, including Gemini, Google\u2019s flagship series of AI models.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kilpatrick highlighted the significance of the restructuring in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis move will allow us to double down on our already deep collaboration and accelerate the research-to-developer pipeline. The mission for our team stays the same.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaana Dogan, an engineer from one of the transitioning teams, also expressed enthusiasm for the shift, noting that it would facilitate greater public availability of DeepMind\u2019s work. \u201cBetter APIs, more open source, more tools\u2026 [this is] just a very small percentage of what\u2019s coming next,\u201d <\/em>she wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Google\u2019s latest reorganization follows a similar move earlier this year when the team behind its Gemini-powered chatbot was integrated into DeepMind. During a December 2024 all-hands meeting, Google CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized the importance of accelerating Gemini\u2019s deployment and development. According to audio obtained by CNBC, Pichai noted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
