But in&nbsp;<strong>2026<\/strong>, Sony plans to take visual fidelity even further by integrating a new&nbsp;<strong>AI-powered upscaling technique<\/strong>, based on&nbsp;<strong>AMD\u2019s FSR 4<\/strong>, which has already debuted in AMD\u2019s latest RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.theverge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2025\/03\/247361_PS5_Pro_VPavic_99.webp?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;crop=0%2C0.03673769287289%2C100%2C99.926524614254&amp;w=750\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PlayStation\u2019s lead architect, Mark Cerny<\/strong>, confirmed the company\u2019s vision, stating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOur target is to have something very similar to FSR 4\u2019s upscaler available on PS5 Pro for 2026 titles as the next evolution of PSSR.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Many&nbsp;<strong>PS5 Pro<\/strong>&nbsp;games already use&nbsp;<strong>PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR)<\/strong>, an&nbsp;<strong>AI-based upscaler<\/strong>&nbsp;that can&nbsp;<strong>convert 720p images to 4K<\/strong>&nbsp;while enhancing visual elements like&nbsp;<strong>particle effects<\/strong>. Compared to&nbsp;<strong>AMD\u2019s FSR 3<\/strong>, PSSR has shown impressive results, but Sony isn\u2019t stopping there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&gt;&gt;&gt;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.batteryone.co\/detail\/1747225\/BTY-M551\">BTY-M551<\/a>&nbsp;for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.batteryone.co\/brand\/2\/MSI\">MSI<\/a>&nbsp;Vector 17 HX A13V GP68 GP78 HX GP68HX<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a newly revealed&nbsp;<strong>collaboration with AMD<\/strong>, Sony played a role in developing&nbsp;<strong>FSR 4<\/strong>, which leverages a&nbsp;<strong>neural network-based upscaler<\/strong>&nbsp;for even sharper, more detailed images. Now, Sony plans to&nbsp;<strong>bring this technology to the PS5 Pro<\/strong>, improving the console\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>upscaling quality<\/strong>&nbsp;beyond what PSSR currently offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sony\u2019s partnership with AMD, known as Project Amethyst, was first publicly announced in December 2023 as a&nbsp;<strong>multiyear collaboration<\/strong>. However, according to Cerny, this partnership actually started earlier and&nbsp;<strong>FSR 4 is its first major achievement<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe neural network (and training recipe) in FSR 4\u2019s upscaler are the first results of the Amethyst collaboration\u2026 a more advanced approach that can exceed the crispness of PSSR.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>While&nbsp;<strong>FSR 4 won\u2019t immediately replace PSSR<\/strong>, Sony is actively working on integrating it into the&nbsp;<strong>PS5 Pro\u2019s ecosystem<\/strong>.
