iPhone 13 users can now access satellite-based services through their carriers, thanks to the release of iOS 18.5 on Monday. This update enables iPhone 13 models (including the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max) to connect to satellite networks provided by their carriers, allowing text messaging even when traditional network access is unavailable. However, this does not extend to Apple’s Emergency SOS satellite service, which remains exclusive to iPhone 14 and newer models.

In addition to satellite support, iOS 18.5 introduces several other enhancements. Users can now manage changes to the Mail app introduced in iOS 18.2, with a larger All Mail button and an easier way to toggle contact photo visibility via the ellipsis menu.
Ahead of Pride Month, Apple has added new Pride Harmony wallpaper for the iPhone and iPad, as well as a new Pride Watch face that pairs with the new Apple Watch Pride Edition Sport Band.
For parents using Screen Time on their child’s device, iOS 18.5 will now send an alert when the passcode is used. Additionally, users can now purchase shows and movies via the Apple TV app on supported third-party devices using their iPhone.
As usual, iOS 18.5 includes bug fixes and security updates—31 in total—addressing issues with FaceTime, Call History, Notes, and iCloud document sharing. Apple also released updates for iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Apple TV, VisionPro, and HomePod.
To update your device, go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts to download and install the update. Once the phone restarts, you’re all set.
