Pixel Buds Pro 2 Feature Drop Adds Adaptive Audio and Head Gesture Controls

Google has begun rolling out the Pixel Buds Pro 2 Feature Drop, announced earlier this month at Made by Google 2025. The update arrives with firmware version 4.467 and introduces several new features.

A new Adaptive mode now appears in the Active Noise Control bar alongside Noise Cancellation, Transparency, and Off. This mode automatically adjusts audio levels based on your surroundings, allowing you to hear ambient sounds while reducing unwanted noise.

Loud Noise Protection is enabled automatically with Adaptive Audio, activating in response to sounds like sirens or construction. Google notes that it does not protect against sharp impulse noises such as gunshots or fireworks.

Gemini Live now performs better in noisy environments by prioritizing the user’s voice and filtering out background noise. This enhancement is available on the Pixel 8 and newer devices.

The update also adds the ability to answer calls and respond to texts with head movements. In the Pixel Buds app under Controls and Gestures, users can enable this feature, which relies on built-in accelerometers and sensors:

  • Nod to answer a call or trigger a text reply.
  • Shake to decline a call or dismiss a text reply.

Head gestures are being rolled out gradually and may not be available immediately after the update.
