Apple has made progress on a custom chip for potential smart glasses that could compete with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, according to a Bloomberg report. The chip is reportedly based on the designs used in the Apple Watch, but modified to support the multiple cameras expected in the smart glasses. Apple aims to begin mass production of this chip by late 2026 or 2027, suggesting a possible product launch within the same timeframe.

In addition to these smart glasses, Apple is said to be working on augmented reality (AR) glasses that could serve as direct competitors to Meta’s AR efforts. Meta showcased its Orion smart glasses last year, which are intended for internal use, with consumer-ready versions expected in 2027.
Apple is also developing specialized chips for camera-equipped Apple Watch and AirPods, with a similar production timeline around 2027. The company is reportedly working on next-generation M-series chips and dedicated AI server chips as part of its broader chip strategy.
