DJI, known primarily for its innovations in aerial photography and drone technology, is entering the smart home space with the launch of Romo, a robot vacuum cleaner equipped with drone-level perception, AI-driven navigation, and an unconventional design.
Although Romo has yet to debut in international markets, DJI has announced plans for a global rollout later this year. Specific launch dates and regions remain undisclosed.

Romo incorporates DJI’s proprietary technologies in visual perception and real-time spatial mapping. It features a binocular fisheye vision system and three wide-angle solid-state laser radars, allowing it to identify and avoid thin obstacles like charging cables and navigate around complex furniture arrangements. The system enables real-time adjustment to cleaning patterns and maintains performance in low-light conditions or when encountering transparent or reflective surfaces.
A notable feature of Romo is its dual robotic arms, which extend to clean hard-to-reach areas. These are supported by edge detection and intelligent algorithms to improve coverage. The vacuum also includes a high-suction 25,000Pa fan and dual roller brushes designed to reduce hair tangles and adapt to various floor types. Its brush and mop systems are capable of lifting independently to prevent cross-contamination between surfaces.
The Romo series includes three models:
- Romo S: Classic white
- Romo A: Transparent body with white base
- Romo P: Fully transparent, showcasing internal components
The transparent design is both aesthetic and functional, offering a modular layout that separates internal mechanisms from user-access areas.
Romo’s base station handles mop cleaning, dust collection, and sterilization using silver ion technology, UV filters, and a sealed system that minimizes odor and bacterial growth. Routine maintenance is simplified through organized compartments for water refills and dust bag replacements, with real-time alerts sent via the DJI Home app. The app also supports remote control, video monitoring with encrypted privacy features, and integration with smart speakers for voice commands.

Charging is supported by DJI’s 55W fast-charging system, allowing Romo to fully recharge in approximately 2.5 hours.
While pricing for global markets has not been confirmed, Romo starts at roughly $650 in China, positioning it to compete with premium robot vacuums from brands like Roborock, Ecovacs, and iRobot.
