Apple Releases watchOS 26 Public Beta 4 with Blood Oxygen Feature Restored

Apple has released the fourth public beta of watchOS 26, one day after the developer beta became available. This update restores support for the redesigned Blood Oxygen feature on the Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 models in the United States.

The beta can be downloaded through the Apple Watch app on iPhone after registering on Apple’s beta website.

Blood oxygen sensing was disabled on Apple’s latest U.S. models in January 2024 due to a legal issue. Apple has reintroduced the feature by altering its functionality: Apple Watches can now take readings, but calculations and results must be viewed on the paired iPhone in the Health app under the Respiratory section.

The feature has remained functional on Apple Watches sold before January 2024 and on models outside the U.S.

Additional Features in watchOS 26

Beyond the Blood Oxygen update, watchOS 26 introduces several new capabilities:

  • Workout Buddy: An Apple Intelligence feature designed to motivate workouts.
  • Workout App Redesign: A refreshed interface for activity tracking.
  • Smart Stack Enhancements: More actionable suggestions.
  • Messages Updates: Live Translation and improved Smart Replies.
  • Phone Features: Call Screening and Hold Assist now available on Apple Watch.
  • Notes App: Create and view notes directly on the watch.

watchOS 26 is expected to launch publicly in the fall.
