Vivo has introduced the Y500 Pro, a partial upgrade over last year’s Y400 Pro with a mix of improvements and compromises.

The device is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 chipset, which offers slightly higher clock speeds—about 100 MHz faster—than the Dimensity 7300 used in the Y400 Pro. It comes with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM, the latter being a new option not available on the previous model. However, the storage technology has been downgraded from UFS 3.1 to UFS 2.2.

The Y500 Pro features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Diamond Shield glass. The screen is marginally smaller than the Y400 Pro’s 6.77-inch panel, and the new model is slightly heavier. On the plus side, the phone now carries IP68 and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance and is certified for higher durability.
Battery capacity has been significantly increased to 7,000 mAh, about 22% larger than before, while retaining 90W fast charging. The main camera has also been upgraded to a 200MP sensor with a larger 1/1.56-inch format, replacing the previous single-lens setup. The front camera remains a 32MP f/2.5 unit.
