Apple has confirmed that Rosetta 2 will remain available through macOS 27, continuing to support Intel app compatibility on Apple Silicon Macs during the transition period.

Rosetta 2 allows apps built for Intel-based Macs (x86 architecture) to run on Apple Silicon Macs (Arm architecture) by translating their code. Apple now states that after macOS 27, only a limited version of Rosetta 2 will remain, specifically to support older gaming titles that depend on Intel-based frameworks and are no longer actively maintained.

According to updated developer documentation, Rosetta was introduced to ease the migration to Apple Silicon, and its broader functionality will be phased out as part of that transition. Apple emphasizes that developers are expected to complete their app transitions before Rosetta’s general-purpose support ends.
The same document confirms that macOS Tahoe (macOS 26) will be the final version of macOS to support Intel-based Macs. However, these devices will continue to receive security updates for at least three more years.
macOS Tahoe supports a small group of Intel Macs:
- 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019)
- 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
- 27-inch iMac (2020)
- Mac Pro (2019)
